About Keyboards Lessons

Keyboards could have as few as 12 keys or as many as 88. Some online piano tutorial sites use 88 keys, the standard number of keys of the modern piano. (The super grand piano contains 102 keys.) These keys represent the 12 notes of the Western musical scale.

The easiest way to get started with piano lessons at home is to be familiar with the patterns of black and white keys on the keyboard. In a modern piano, there are 52 white keys and 36 black keys. These keys span 7 octaves (each octave contains 12 notes) and a minor third, giving the piano a wide range of sounds.

The white keys represent the musical tones while the black keys represent half-step intervals between the notes. These are called sharps and flats. On the keyboard, an octave is represented by 7 white keys and 5 black keys.

In order to learn to play piano keyboard, the student has to be familiar with the keys as a group, starting with the two black keys and its corresponding three white keys, and then the three black keys and its corresponding four white keys.

As with any other musical instrument, piano learning online or at home at regular intervals is key to proficiency. How long and how often a student practices determine how fast he or she will learn to play the piano well.

With so many free online piano lessons for kids today, its possible to get children started very early in life if they desire to become professional (concert) pianists someday. For amateur players who just want to play for their own entertainment, a 30- minute practice a day over a period of 2 to 3 years will let them play pieces that they really enjoy with satisfaction.
